DIY 适合成绩较好，独立能力强，且有充足时间和精力的同学。因为申请学校需要提前一年开始准备，了解各个学校的不同专业设置，结合自己的兴趣与学校的具体要求去选择目标学校和目标专业。很多学校都需要准备标准化成绩，这会占用很大一部分时间。
如果选择留学中介，一定要选择专业度高的，美国本土的，这样学生到了美国之后有任何问题还可以继续和专业老师保持联系。
